The Centurion was a professional Roman Officer, in command of approximately eighty men. Only the bravest men where chosen, the dearth rate of the Centurion was very high. They where expected to be the first on the battle field, and the last to come off.
The warrior depicted here, is leading his men into battle. His uniform is typical for the first century A.D.
The crest on the helmet is transverse so that his men would be able to distinguish him on the battle field and to also distinguish his rank.
